Point Reyes
Last summer, we went to Point Reyes, located a couple hours north of San Francisco, for the second time. The first time we went there, the park was undergoing renovation and restoration, so you had to park in one area and take a special bus to the lighthouse and coastal trails. After all that hassle, there was only enough time to visit the lighthouse. Plus, the weather was horrible, so we didn’t really linger like we like to do.
This time, we had plenty of time to see the lighthouse and walk the trails around Chimney Rock. It’s really beautiful there; even better than the lighthouse, in my opinion.

On the way there, we made a wrong turn and got stuck in traffic at Point Reyes Station. Actually, the traffic consisted of vehicles that were queued up to participate in the town’s Western Weekend Parade. I was nervous that we would have to drive along the parade route—all those cynical eyes staring at our Honda Civic, thinking how typical it is of visitors like us to think we have the right to drive in any parade we come across.
Fortunately, Arnon was able to leave the queue a block before the start of the parade route. Since we were kind of stuck anyway, we parked and watched the parade while enjoying pastries from Bovine Bakery.
