Late As Usual
Yesterday, I wanted to write a post about it being the first day of the new month and laying out some plans for the future, but I couldn’t for two reasons. First, it was the worst day for me in recent memory. After several days of feeling like I had wasabi smeared in my sinus cavities, I was hit hard by fever and a sinus headache and spent most of the day curled up on the couch, drifting in and out of sleep and having annoying dreams about walking around the mall with Smeagol.
Secondly, the city turned off power in the neighborhood for about ten hours to replace an electric pole with a newer and taller one. Without electricity I wasn’t able to connect to the internet. That would have driven me crazy any other day, being the internet addict that I am, but I was in no mood yesterday so it worked out well.
By the way, the notice left on the door by the city didn’t mention anything about pole replacements but I know because the pole stands in my back neighbor’s yard. It’s kind of hard to miss a giant log suspended from a crane hovering over your back fence.
The workers were really loud, often using coarse language and laughing heartily, and yelling at the crew members on the ground to “send up the f–king chainsaw.” They were also throwing things down from the top of the pole, hitting our neighbor’s gazebo. I’m glad that pole isn’t in our backyard.
