Mordechai

!Arnon told me recently that his parents had considered naming him Mordechai, pronounced more–deh–{phlegm}high. Can you believe it?

Every time I hear the name Mordechai I think about the scene from Family Guy where two Jews with thick, southern accents want to attack Lois, à la rednecks wanting to lynch black people:

Mordechai:   Well, look-a-here, Herschel. We got us one of them self-hating Jews. Nothing I hate worse than a Jew who doesn’t appreciate her own rich heritage.

Herschel:   Come on, Mordechai. Let’s get her!

I just can’t see Arnon as a Mordechai.

When I was in the sixth grade, I asked my mom if I could change my name to Maxine. Thank Zeus she said no.

Riley’s 100th-Day Celebration

! ! !

! ! !

Yesterday, the Markses, the senior Markses and the Chungs celebrated Riley’s 100th day, a Korean tradition I’m not familiar with but find interesting nonetheless.

My mom prepared a nice Korean feast, Linda made a delicious manicotti dish, and we had the obligatory rice cake present at all Korean celebrations.

The guest of honor, Riley, had little to do but be present. I’m probably alone in thinking this but I think Riley looks like a miniature Cho.

For me, the best part of the event was seeing Ken and Linda. The last time I saw them was nearly a decade ago.

Bathroom Mirror

Late in May, we finally got our bathroom mirror. Unfortunately, it’s not what I asked for (both in style and size) but it’ll have to do. I simply don’t want to think about the bathroom ever again.

We’re also satisifed with the living room and kitchen. The contractor plugged up the extra hole he mistakenly drilled in the kitchen granite and we now have a TV stand. The TV area was intended for a 50″ TV but we just can’t bring ourselves to buy something that large. I often think our 32″ TV is too big.
